Metropolitan Cathedral

This church is at the top of the hierarchy of catholic churches in the country. Built in a compound style, it shelters the original altar pieces, oil on canvas paints and some sculpture that were moved from the old capital city Santiago de Guatemala, Antigua.  At the entrance there is a Holy Door, declared as such during the papacy of Saint Jean Paul II. It is located on the east side of the Central Plaza (Plaza de la Constitución).
