Guatemala City was built over a great and powerful settlement known as Kaminal Juyú. Due to its strategical location was one of the most important trade centers in the Mesoamerican region and its occupancy was one of the longer ones. Nowadays it is possible to visit the mounds and structures that form this center. Everyday Shamans and Mayan priests go there to perform ceremonies that are dedicated to the ancient gods and dieties that are part of the Mesoamerican religion.
