The city of Esquipulas is especially characterized by the number of Catholic pilgrims who visit the Basilica. This temple of Esquipulas, home of the image of the Miraculous Lord of Esquipulas (Black Christ), image that is venerated by millions of Central American devotees and southern Mexico.
The patronal feast of this city is January 15 and due to its importance as a tourist and religious center, the population is mostly dedicated to trade and lodging and food services for visitors.
